Rustic Square Drink Coaster - FREE pattern

I really enjoy working with this 4 ply cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills in the shade of latte. I've had trouble deciding what to do with it, I have frogged about 4 different projects using this yarn until I finally decided to make some square drink coasters. I hope the intended recipient likes them!

Aurora inspired coaster with alternative ending

Last weekend we had a wonderful Aurora Australis due to a solar storm. I couldn't see it from here because we had lots of cloud cover and we don't have a clear view to the south, but there were many pictures posted online. They have inspired me to mix these colours, orange, red, bright pink and purple. For this coaster I used my simple hexagon flower pattern but with an alternative ending. For the 4th round, just do 5 dc into the 6 corners, 2 dc into each 2 ch space, and also 1 dc into the top of each cluster stitch. There is no 5th round.

Simple Hexagon Flower Coaster - FREE Pattern

I made these flower coasters last night, I apologise if it's similar to something someone else has done, but I didn't follow a pattern at all, I just made it up. I wrote down what I did in case anyone would like to know. I apologise in advance for any errors, I just wrote it out quickly, let me know if you need clarification!

Crochet Adventures - Drink Coasters

I've made a few crochet drink coasters over the last couple of years, we use them at our computer desks for our drinks. I spend a lot of my day at the pc and drink a lot of water! The doctor wants me to limit the amount of coffee I drink due to high blood pressure, so I only have about 2 or 3 cups a day, but I drink water all day long. These coasters are ones I made last month and they are by our computers now. I used a 3.5mm hook and 8 ply cotton yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills.

I saw a picture of this pattern which is on Ravelry, so decided to give it a go.

I made these happy sunshine yellow drink coasters last year, again using some more of my 8 ply cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills. I just made up the pattern up, the first round is 12 dc, then its 3 rounds of dc then a round of sc.

Happy Sunshine Yellow Drink Coasters

I saw a picture of a crochet seashell online, but I couldn't find a pattern so I had a couple of goes at it by myself, just making it up as I went along. I didn't write down the pattern and they are long gone now, I throw away my cotton coasters when they get too dirty to wash.

These swirly coasters I made using my own pattern, I haven't written it down, I made them in August 2021.

I made these 5 heart coasters in August 2022 for my husband's step mum. I have made them before, many years ago, but the pattern is discontinued. So I just looked at the picture and made up the corresponding pattern.

Simple House Warming Gift

My sister in Darwin is building a new house so I made a simple house warming gift! These drink coasters are based on a pattern I found from Ravelry. I also included this dishcloth, pattern also in Ravelry. I used 8ply cotton and a 4mm hook. I hope my sister likes them!

Star Coaster, free pattern

I thought I could turn my five pointed star into a coaster by adding a few more rounds and turning it into a circle. Maybe one day I will add another few rounds and turn it into a square, that could be fun! Here is the pattern for my star coaster.

I've turned my 5 pointed star into a circle

Five Hearts Coaster

I was thinking five hearts would make a good size for a coaster, as the doily I made yesterday was a bit big for a coaster. So I was thinking I could work out a pattern, but before I did, I checked google images and found someone had already done what I had in mind. There isn't a written pattern, but a photo tutorial. It was clear enough for me to work out how to follow it. As it turns out, it was the same site where I found yesterday's pattern! Crochetmillan has some lovely patterns, do check out her blog.

Twelve Red and Green Coasters

I've made these 12 red and green coasters for my dinner party table, finishing them off while waiting for my son's vaccination appointment. I used a 4mm hook and 8 ply cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills, and I used the pattern I have used many times from crochet spot.
these twelve red and green coasters will look good on my party table
In some way I can understand the anxiety some people might have about getting their child immunised, but any anxiety I do have is not greater than him becoming very ill or worse from a preventable disease. The photocopied sheet of vaccination side effects the nurse handed me did not do much to lessen my concern. Right now he is sucking on a lollipop and watching Toy Story, he is still complaining about his arm hurting but I think he will be alright!

Pomegranate and Peach Coasters

I made these coasters for a custom order, it doesn't happen often but it has happened! I bought this cotton especially, I hope the customer likes them!

Red, Pink and Latte Coasters

I really like the combination of these colours. It didn't occur to me that they would go together until I saw the balls sitting together in my project basket. I just used the simple coaster pattern from crochetspot that I've used for other coasters. Do you like these colours together?

Yellow Doily Coasters

What is it with the colour yellow? These coasters I listed in my online shop yesterday have more views than most things in my shop, with the exception of the yellow flower coasters! I've ordered some yellow 4 ply and it should arrive any day now so I can make more things in yellow, it seems to be the colour people like to look at right now! These yellow doily coasters are the same as the green ones I made, with a 3.5mm hook and 7 dc in the last round clusters instead of 8.

Simple Yellow Flower Coasters

I made these sunny yellow coasters to use the 8 ply cotton I have on hand, they're a simple pattern from crochetspot.com that I've used before. For some reason they're proving popular in my shop with lots of views, I think I'll have to make some more in different colours! Or maybe its the cheerful yellow that's appealing? I'm thinking of ordering more cotton and some 4 ply yellow is on the list so I can make other coasters in the same colour as these!

Plain Circle Coasters

I made these plain circle coasters using the 4 ply cotton I have on hand and a 3mm hook, in case someone would like something plain rather than pink flowers!

Bright Pink Square Coasters

I really like these square coasters I made to put in my shop, I wonder if anyone else will like them? I chose the bright pink for a distinctive look. I used a 3mm hook and 4 ply cotton. Let me know what you think!

Tiny Flower Doily Coaster, free pattern

I've made up this pattern so I could use 4 ply cotton and a 2mm hook to make a pretty doily coaster in 5 rounds. I couldn't find a pattern that would use that size yarn to make what I was looking for. I'm not sure how to explain how I did the little flower in the centre, but if I find out it can be improved I will update this pattern here on this page. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think!

Pink & Green Flower Coasters

I've been spending too much time obsessively looking over my shop and how I can improve it. I got the idea that I should focus on having a matching collection in the shop that compliments each piece. So I thought I would make green and pink coasters to match other coasters I have in there, and these are the result. Now that they're done I'm not happy with them, I think I should only sell the best yarn, and the pink doesn't scrub up. I think I'll have to give them away, or use them myself!

Pair of Red Doily Coasters

I wanted to make some red things for my online shop at madeit.com to make it look more festive. I had some of this thick cotton blend in red left, but only enough to make a pair of large coasters.
a pair of red doily coasters
Because this 60% cotton 40% acrylic blend is so thick, I used a 4mm hook. I followed my four round doily pattern which then made these generously sized. This time, the last round has scallops of 7 dc instead of 8 dc, and the start has a loop of 4 ch.

Summer Lime Coasters

I made this set of 6 doily coasters in green and decided they should b e called Summer Lime Coasters! I think they're nice enough to have for sale in my shop, and if no one buys them, I think I shall use them myself!

These were made following my four round doily pattern, except  the last round has scallops of 7 dc instead of 8, and the start is a loop of 4 ch. I used a 3.5mm hook, and 8 ply Australian made cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mill.

Striped Circle Coasters, free patterns

I made these small drink coasters for my online shop to test these patterns I've written. They're based on the simple circle coasters I made for my sister-in-law, but I've refined the pattern further. I hope you like them!
4 circle coasters with pink stripes at different places
Each coaster has four rounds, one is a stripe of sc. Each coaster is identified by which round has that sc stripe. The idea is to use a contrast colour for the sc round so it really stands out. Gauge is not important, as the hook and yarn determine the size of the finished coaster. I used a 3.5mm hook and 8 ply Australian made cotton from the Bendigo Woollen Mill.

Simple Circle Coasters, free patterns

I quickly made up these simple circle coasters to match the striped 'Olives & Wine' two way tea cosy I made back in July. These will be given as house-warming gifts to my brother and his wife, who indicated to me that she liked the tea cosy.
4 circle coasters
I originally was going to make all four coasters striped, but after finishing the first one I decided three single colours ones would be better, being quicker to make up with a neater result. I still have not perfected the skill of changing colours seamlessy, much to my frustration!

The single colour coasters are 3 rounds of dc, with a final round of sc to make them the same size of the tri-colour coaster, which I made first. Each round is an increasing round, with the first round starting with 12 dc. Each dc round is started with 3 ch. For the tri-colour coaster, I inserted a round of sc after the second round of dc. Again, each round is an increasing round, starting with a first round of dc and each dc round starts with 3 ch. I think I'll take this opportunity to practice my pattern writing further, please let me know if I make any mistakes!
