I made these flower coasters last night, I apologise if it's similar to something someone else has done, but I didn't follow a pattern at all, I just made it up. Frangipani Flower, free pattern and photo tutorial

I wrote this pattern for a frangipani flower in 2012 and have had it for sale in my Ravelry store since 2013, but now I have decided to share it as a free pattern! I have taken some photos, hopefully they help a bit. I have also a pattern for making this into a square for an afghan block to make rugs with! I will blog about that very soon!
this frangipani flower is now a free pattern

I just found this image on Ravelry of chloeknitoo's remembrance poppies being used to form a display. Its great to see my remembrance poppy pattern being used in a meaningful way like this!

Remembrance Poppy, free pattern

My Thursday craft group is making poppies for the local RSL display for the 100th year anniversary of Gallipoli. This is the poppy I made, I made up the pattern and I'd like to share it here. I used a 4mm hook and 8 ply acrylic yarn in both black and red. We're handing in the poppies very soon so they can do up the display.

7 Petal Flower, free pattern

I saw another surgeon today and I was told there's a chance I won't regain full use of my left hand, so I made these flowers to see what I can actually do. At least I can make flowers! Here's the free pattern for this little 7 petal flower in 3 rounds.

A Flower for March

I am soo bored right now, I really miss being able to crochet. So I thought I'd have a go at a flower to see if the tension matters. The result is a bit sloppy I think or am I being overly critical? I made this using 8 ply cotton and a 3.5mm hook, I think it looks like I used a bigger hook because the tension is slack. I see a second surgeon this week and a 3rd next week, then I will choose one and get my operation. Then who knows how long the recovery will take? It could be months, so more flowers like this to grace the pages of this blog! lol!
this is what I can make with a weak left hand and slack tension

A Flower for Mother's Day

I made this little flower embellishment for Mother's Day. I used a fine angora blends with a 4mm hook. Its a daisy-centered Irish Rose, with a long chain at the beginning and an equally long chain at the end. Then it can be tied to a gift, like a bottle of red or the very special Impi Cream from my favourite winery in Stanthorpe, Rumbalara. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Large White Flower

I'm quite happy with how this flower turned out, I made it to go on the Blue Angel hat I made for my niece Chloe. Its a combination of two of my patterns, you start with a daisy-centered Irish Rose. Then you add a round of ch to add a round of Heather's Flower petals at the end. I think I need to make more of these!

5 Petal Simple Flower, free download

This flower is very similar to a simple flower, which is one of my most popular free patterns. I'm making this one available as a free download from Ravelry because I'm planning to include it in a set of hats I'm working on. The pdf file is easy to download and its free, you'll find it in my Ravelry store.
this 5 petal simple flower is very similar to the simple flower which has 6 petals
It's pretty simple, hence why it''s called a Simple Flower! This one has 5 petals instead of 6, so it has 10 stitches in the first round instead of 6.

Daisy-centered Irish Rose, free pattern

This tiny daisy is how I prefer to do the centre of an Irish Rose, which is traditionally a wheel of 6 spokes. I prefer this daisy in the centre, I just think it looks nicer!
An Irish Rose with a daisy centre in pink and purple
Tiny Daisy in 2 Rounds
1. 3 ch sl st to 1st ch to form loop, 1 ch 6 sc into loop, sl st to 1st sc
2. (3 ch sl st to next) repeated a total of 6 times (6 looped petals)
A blue Irish Rose with a white daisy centre
If you would like to turn this into an Irish Rose with a daisy centre, change colours and continue ontp this 3rd round.
3. attach new colour to any ch sp (2 ch 3dc into same 2 ch sl st into same, sl st into next ch sp) repeat for each ch sp (6 petals)
4. turn so you are working on the backside of the flower, (3 ch, sc around the next post of round 2) repeat for each post
5. turn so you are working again on the front side of the flower, (sl st into next ch sp, 3 ch 4 dc into same 3 ch sl st into same) repeat for each chain space, sl st into 1st ch sp and fasten off

Heather's Rose pattern

I've finally been able to finish the Heather's Rose pattern enough to get it onto Ravelry. I've been working on this pattern for nearly 12 months, when I first posted about it here on this blog back in July. The finished PDF has 6 photos, and two actual patterns, so a lot of work for one small flower!
Heather's Rose can have optional stamen, like these white ones
Its a special flower I've named after my mum, who was my first crochet teacher. Hopefully the photos show how pretty this flower is and some people decide they'd like to make some!

Tiniest One Round Flower, free pattern

This is how I do a very small flower in just one round, I most recently made one for a premmie hat I will post about soon. I realised I hadn't shared this pattern yet so here it is now.
this is how I do a tiny one round flower
One Round Flower
gauge is not important, the size of the flower will be determined by the size of the hook and the thickness of the yarn, this requires a very small amount of yarn, great for using up small scraps
1. 3 ch sl st into 1st ch to form loop, rest of round worked into the loop, (2 ch dc 2 ch sl st) repeated for 5 petals

My First Pattern Is For Sale!

I have just managed to work out how to add a PDF pattern to Ravelry. I decided to put my frangipani flower pattern there, because my friend Hazel and her friend both tested the pattern and said it was ok. I only have the pattern listed for $1.35, because it is my first pattern after all! (I did put it up 50 cents, and there was a 35c fee!) The flower has just 3 rounds so I certainly didn't want to ask for much, this is really just so I can learn how the system works. I wonder if I have to pay American tax? I don't have to pay Australian tax because I don't earn anywhere near enough!

Cute 2 Round Flower, free pattern

This flower is very similar to another flower, my tiny two round flower, but it is slightly different. I wanted a 5 petal two round flower to quickly make up for my online shop and needed something cute and funky, so this is what I came up with! I hope you like it, please let me know if you do <3

Frangipani Flowers

A friend asked me to make her some frangipani flowers, so I searched for a pattern but couldn't find one. So I made up my own, and this is the result.
crochet frangipani flowers, design by Teena Sutton Murphy
I'm working on writing the pattern down, I'm hoping to sell it on Ravlery as part of a set of flowers. I don't imagine I'll sell it for much maybe for a dollar, or even less. I am after all, just starting out! Please let me know if you like this flower and think I should include it in a pattern download on Ravelry.

Tiny Two Round Flower, free pattern

I made these four flowers using the tiny bit of yarn left over from making my latest spiral bunny rug. Its pure merino wool, so I couldn't waste it!
tiny two round flowers made with left over merino wool
I made them to go in my shop because I'm making a theme in my shop in festive colours. I used a 3mm hook and the wool is 4 ply. I made two Irish Roses, just following the traditional pattern you can find for free with a google search. Then I had enough for just two more tiny flowers in two rounds. The first round is 6 sc, the petals are ... wait, I think I need to write you the pattern!

Turning Circles into Flowers

The four striped circle coasters that I made and posted about yesterday looked plain to me, and they were on the small side, so I added an extra round in blue. These are for sale in my online shop.
4 circle coasters get the floral treatment with scallops added in blue cotton
I simply added 12 petals, sometimes called scallops. The pattern for the 5th round for these flower coasters is ch 3 2 dc into same, sk 1, sl st into next, sk 1, (5 dc into next, sk 1, sl st into next, sk 1) repeated, end with 2 dc into starting ch, sl st into 3rd ch for 12 petals or scallops.
now they're the perfect size to become coasters at afternoon tea

Two More Spring Flowers

Here are two more spirng flowers I made last month and haven't posted before. I rather like the pink one, it has 3 layers of petals and is made with a pretty variegated pink 4 ply cotton.
my version of an Irish Rose made with 4 ply variegated pink
The second flower is my own version, I hope to share the pattern one day. It's basically two layers with Heather's flower on the 3rd layer in green so they look like leaves. I made this one out of bright 8 ply acrylic.
